Melton rural areas: scrap metal merchants

December 11th, 2009 | Posted by Admin

There have been a number of incidents in recent days of scrap metal merchants knocking on doors. If they don’t get an answer, they have been reported entering back gardens. In Waltham, a group were challenged by a local farmer when he found them going through a skip on someone else’s property.

Hugh Crouch from Melton Police is also warning that there has been an increase in the amount of copper cable being stolen from remote locations – particularly around the Redmile area.

Please call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222 to report any suspicious activity.

This report comes from Melton Mowbray police:

Two men called at a home last night (14th October) in Croxton Kerrial between 8pm and 9pm and made enquiries about the water pressure within the property. The occupant was not taken in by the story and closed the door on them. They then left the area and no vehicle was seen.

This was reported to us this morning. If you have suspicious callers to your door and think they may be bogus callers, please call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222 with details – including vehicle details if possible.

General warning: free security checks

March 26th, 2009 | Posted by Admin

Neighbourhood Watch has been contacted by a resident in Croxton concerning a telephone call she received this morning. The company stated they would be in the area tomorrow (Friday) offering a free security and fire check. They also offered a free paper shredder and invisible marker.

The local police officer says that if anyone has any suspicious visits then they should phone the police on 0116 222 2222 and they will come out to the village. The best response to such callers is to say that you live in a ‘no cold-calling village’.

Unfortunately the resident could not remember the name of the company who phoned. If anyone has any further information please use our contact page and we will pass on the details.
