Eaton & Branston: Sheep killed

At some time over the last weekend, six sheep were killed in a field between Eaton and Branston. It appears that the sheep had been attacked by dogs, but an unusual feature is that a number of them had their ears totally removed (which may offer a clue if anyone has come across this before). Vale of Belvoir: spate of vehicle thefts

Within the last 28 days there have been nine thefts from motor vehicles in the Vale of Belvoir, covering an area including Knipton, Belvoir, Bottesford, Eaton and Harby. This averages one vehicle attacked every three days!

Because of the help of Neighbourhood Watch members, it’s known that at least some of these have involved persons in a white Astra van and an ‘electric-blue’ Citroen Belingo van. The Belingo van was also seen acting suspiciously in the drive of a house in Bottesford, possibly ‘casing the joint’.

General crime update: Melton Mowbray rural areas

From Hugh Crouch at Leicester Constabulary:

Earlier today (12th March) in Oakham, Rutland, an owner of a caravan was approached at their home about the caravan which was sat on their drive and asked if they wished to sell it. Please be aware of the potential thefts of these items. The male was described as 5 foot tall by 5 foot wide, 50 yrs and balding, and rather scruffy, and was driving a silver people carrier.

Near Somerby, a car was broken into on Sunday between 16:30 and 17:00 hrs. Please also beware about the potential theft of it items from cars parked at beauty spots. Don’t become a target! Please ensure that you don’t leave items on display.

There have been two cars stolen this week; one at Eaton and the other at Stathern. Please make sure that you keep your vehicles secure and report any suspicious activities.

In Chadwell, on the morning of the 11th March, a home was entered and items removed. We understand that the offence took place at about 08:15 hrs. Did you see any strange vehicles in the area?
