Long Bennington: cold callers
March 21st, 2009 | Posted by Admin
On March 20th a male wearing ID called at a property in the Costa Row area of Long Bennington offering to jet wash a drive and was given £60 to purchase materials. The male returned again at 10:30 am on March 23rd to continue the job. Whilst at the property the male offered to clean moss from the roof & the pvc fascias for a reduced price of £200 instead of £400 but the owner refused.
The front drive & rear patio were cleaned to a very basic standard for an additional £100. The male was described as white, 5ft 5, wearing jeans, dark jacket, black trainers or shoes and wearing a baseball cap. He was also driving a white or silver van.
Beware of cold callers and unknown traders. Remember that IDs can easily be fabricated and must be thoroughly checked. Preferably always give work to people who are known in the area and have a good track record. Please report any rogue tradesmen/handymen to NHW and Trading Standards.
