Melton Mowbray: rural crimes update

December 17th, 2009 | Posted by Admin

A crime update for the rural areas of Melton Mowbray, issued by Hugh Crouch, Community Initiatives Co-ordinator at Melton Police HQ on the 17th December 2009.

Thank you
Firstly, a huge thank you for all your calls regarding suspicious vehicles and visitors. These are providing fantastic intelligence for us, so please keep the information coming!

Security
With regards to crime prevention, please remember to keep your house secure – even when there are people in the home. There have been a number of recent incidents of intruders entering properties when residents were inside.

Theft of batteries
There seems to be an on-going pattern of people calling at properties looking for batteries; scrap or otherwise. Please remember that if you have tractors or lorries, these may be targeted.

Crimes
There have been two incidents during the last five days I’d like to make you aware of:

In the Coston area, a home was entered on the night of the 12th December and some items removed. And in the Old Dalby area, a rural location cotaining a number of large vehicles had visitors in the early hours of the morning of 16th December. These person were disturbed and made off, leaving behind a number of batteries from the vehicles.

If you have any information regarding the above or any other suspicious activity please call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 22220.
